NVE Progress update

Hey all, Ive been a bit busy lately so I havent had much of a chance to do anything with the mod, but dont worry its not dead. I have most of the models I need made and almost all of them converted and fully working in game, some of the new areas are mostly done but no NPC's yet, Id take a few screens but its pretty much a definate that I will change the layout a few times.

There will be no audio till the mod is done, this way I can send it out without new sounds and keep people that want it now happy and for those who want quality and quantity will get the sounds added in a patch soon after. I have no idea when release will be so dont ask. If you have any questions about what to expect that I havent covered in previous posts then just comment here or on the ModDB page, you are more likely to get a quick response there.

Android OS

I kinda love the Android phone OS so as a little side thing to the main Operation Sci-Fi creations I will be making an app which can be used as a music player with the look of whatever sci-fi you like, along with styles matching the factions of Oblivion and Fallout New Vegas. Dont know what else to do for an app to go with the mod really, other than providing a direct RRS feed to this blog through it too which I will. So if anyone has any ideas on what they would like me to add to the app then fire away :D

On the progress of the mod, Ive fallen behind a bit on the schedule I had set up so I will be trying to catch up with that, I will be away from home for a couple of weeks starting next week so I cant do anything then, I'm not promising anything but I may have a release for the mod out at the weekend if I get some spare time over the next few days. Of course I'd feel more enthusiastic about doing more if people would comment on here and give me some feedback on any news.

NVE - Languages

I recently noticed several emails/Pm's... The mod will, when finished be multiple languages, so far this will be.


The blogposts will still be english and the mod will be english a week before any other language, after I complete a section or chapter I will go back and create alternate language versions. As I cant speak anything other than yes/no and several insults in each language I will be using google translate so sorry for any wierd sentences.

J'ai récemment remarqué plusieurs e-mails / s. Pm .. Le mod, lorsque vous avez terminé être plusieurs langues, à ce jour ce sera.

En anglais

Le blogposts sera toujours anglais et le mod sera Anglais une semaine avant une autre langue, après avoir complété une section ou chapitre, je vais revenir en arrière et créer des versions autre langue. Comme je ne peux pas parler autre chose que oui / non et plusieurs insultes dans chaque langue, je vais utiliser google translate tellement désolé pour tout phrases bizarres.

Vor kurzem habe ich bemerkt, mehrere E-Mails / PM 's. .. Die Mod wird beendet, wenn mehrere Sprachen, so weit dies sein wird.


Die Blogeinträge werden noch Englisch und die Mod ist Englisch eine Woche vor jeder anderen Sprache, nachdem ich einen Abschnitt oder Kapitel gehe ich zurück und wird zu erstellen alternativen Sprachfassungen zu vervollständigen. Wie spreche ich kippe alles andere als ja / nein und einige Beleidigungen in jeder Sprache werde ich mit Google Translate so leid für seltsame Sätze.

Недавно я заметил несколько писем / с ПМ .. В моде будет, когда закончил быть несколько языков, до сих пор это будет.


blogposts все равно будет на английском и мода будет английский за неделю до любого другого языка, после того как я полный раздел или главу, я вернусь и создать альтернативные версии языка. Как я могу говорить что-нибудь другое, чем да / нет и несколько оскорблений в каждом языке я буду использовать Google Translate очень жаль, для любого странные предложения.

El blogposts seguirá Inglés y el Ministerio de Defensa se Inglés una semana antes de cualquier otra lengua, después de completar una sección o capítulo voy a volver y crear versiones alternativas del lenguaje. Como no puedo hablar nada más que sí / no y varios insultos en cada idioma que va a usar traductor Google lo siento por cualquier frases extrañas.

NVE - Faction Bonuses

Right, since some of the bonuses will play a pretty big part in some of the gamplay areas of the mod, I should probably outline the basic differences on what faction you choose has.

Brotherhood of Steel - The Brotherhood will obviously have the appearance of being high tech and doing stuff for the good of the people blah blah blah, but really the plus you will get from them is the free power armour training. The mod is going to include new wearable items and some of them may be pretty heavy duty, close to power armour stats if not higher, so you will need this skill, if you already have it through another source (such as doing the vanilla BoS quests) then no big deal. Another bonus BoS has is the range of upgrades for the base later in the mod, this is more in the form of defences and amount of bonus rooms that can be unlocked by the more advanced skills of the BoS engineers, but also in the speed the rooms are opened, usually it could be an ingame week or more before a faction opens up new areas of the base but with BoS it takes days. With the bonus areas for BoS you will find weapons and armour usually associated with them.

Enclave - Theyre not in New Vegas much at all, I have only actually came across a downed vertibird which I presumed was Enclave owned at some point in time. But I like them so I have decided to make them a faction in the mod, who, wether you choose them or not, will play a part in the mod. Their bonuses also include power armour training and high tech stuff same as BoS but more along their own tech and appearances, the speed they rebuild the facility is quickest of all factions because of their ways of 'motovating' people.

NCR - Theyre closest in appearance and acts as the current military in real world so I am going to try and make the appearance of the facility as close to a normal military base as I can with the current models in vanilla NV. Their bonuses will hardly be noticable till later in the mod, even then it will only appeal to those who are interested in the optional world for building your own colony on another world (I will explain that in a separate post later today).

Raiders - The raiders are tricky as you will choose the appearance of the base past the entrance because they wont know about it, the raider look wont be an option, sorry if anyone likes it. Reason for this being that it doesnt exactly fit the idea of Area 51, its too tribal and savage to have high tech stuff. There will be no bonus other than being able to redecorate any time you wish, which if you like Goa'uld or Alteran designs, might be a very good bonus.... its early yet for saying this really but if you change design make sure you remove all items and companions from the base if you expect to keep them, the way I plan on designing this base system means that each design is technically a completely different interior, between now and release could change a lot though.

Caesars Legion - CL bonuses are simple, the guards and troops from Area 51 will die for you if you ask them to, as in you will, in chapter 1, be able to hire up to 2-3 of them to guard you.

The Supermutants - I dont know why but supermutants are cool. Simple as that, only reason I want to use them for this is cos I think they look cool. To make it more general, this faction will also include ghouls, non feral of course. Their bonuses include being able to buy stealth boys, the base will be reconstructed as quick as BoS because of the obvious physical advantage of muties. As another bonus, I may be thinking of adding a DNA resequencer. This device will allow the player to rebuild their character, not only to ghoul or raider, or even just a new look but also any other races I add to the mod will be available on this machine (if I can get it to work that is).

Great Khans/Boomers/The Strip/etc - These factions and any I have missed wont be included. For the simple fact that I cant think of a reason to, if anyone likes any of these factions in particular and can give me ideas on the appearance of the base and bonuses then I will add them.

I will try and avoid any 'cheats' in the mod, like karma or easy items etc. but Im not promising anything and if you dont like being able to get things easy then dont use that part of the mod, simple.

Just a quick post, I forgot to add it onto the first one, the blog has advertisements, Im sorry for this as I know they can be annoying at times but since I cant expect people to donate money to my projects yet then it is currently the best way to fund my expenses for the mods and games I create through Nero's Workshop. The creation of much of the materials needed for mods and games can require certain pieces of software to help make it both easier and higher quality, and as such sometimes it costs an arm and a leg, considering I am doing this for free then Im making a loss and a click on any ads that interest you could help make it so Im not losing as much :)

Anyway I've wasted enough time explaining why Im so poor, so just remember anything remotely interesting click it and you might get a good deal. I wont mention it any further.

Operation SciFi - New Vegas

Welcome to the first of many blog posts for Operation SciFi, this mod will ad a great many new areas to explore in several different games, mainly Oblivion and Fallout New Vegas.

The NVE (New Vegas Edition) will be based around Area 51 to begin with, this leaves the perfect place to host the various sci-fi worlds included, each level will be based around a specific tv show, book, movie etc, the first being Stargate. The Stargate area will be the main part of the mod to begin with, probably right to the end as it will be the first and main method of transport to the new areas, which will be in the form of new planets, admittedly small areas, ranging from tiny indoor cave systems and underground facilities to full, open world forests and deserts.

Right, the rough story, you will have to initiate the quest by yourself as I dont like the stupid idea of you being the one person the random person runs up to out of the many he probably ran past on his way to you from where he came from. You will find a guy in goodsprings, in the bar, who will tell you that he escaped from an attack on his village, the village being built aroun the entrance to Area 51 being a complete coincidence of course. He will ask you to help him and a group of people to take back the settlement from the raiders.

Now, I like the whole choosing your sides stuff so im not forcing you to do this, right now you will be informed of the locations of several choices and what they are, as of now any faction in New Vegas can be asked to help you take Area 51 as this is the stage I am at in making the NVE, this includes the raiders who have it, you can visit a (new) camp to ask the leader to be part of the gang and gain entry to the base this way, but this leads to a slightly longer quest line of finding scientists to sneak into the base without the raiders knowing as they have no idea whats in there.

I would like to note now before anyone complains that such and such faction is not friendly with them but they want their bonuses (ah yes, depending on the faction you choose you get different bonuses), these factions are technically speaking, new. As in these factions are identical to the current ones but are separate and start as friendly to the player till the player chooses a faction, this will hopefully solve any problems people may have. All of the camps for this mod based in the Mojave will be in their own separate cell with a crossroads cell separating them from eachother where the player decides what faction they want.

I know this is confusing because Im having to read it a few times myself to understand it to be honest so sorry for that but on the off chance that you understand all this then carry on.

Each faction has a bonus and style for whatever you chose. Now, because of the way this is done the Stargate will be different style depending on which faction too, so say the player goes for the NCR, it will be the SG-1 gate as the NCR looks like it would be the normal military force. The Brotherhood of Steel will have the Atlantis gate as it is more high tech and that suits them. Caesars Legion will have the Universe gate as it suits them more I think. The base itself can look totally different too, like the NCR will have the basic underground base stuff with the wires along the walls etc, wheras the BoS will have the type of architecture that their bunker has in New Vegas, you get the idea. If you choose the Raiders then you get to decide all this upon interacting with the entrance for the first time.

Once you choose a faction you will complete that quest and that factions quest will start (save me from doing any confusing crap with the quests), all but the raiders are practically the same, go in, slaughter the occupants, save the prisoners and establish a base of operations around the entrance to Area 51. Once this is done, if you havent chosen raiders you will be asked to go away for a few days and come back (in other words rest or go do some other missions), this gives the faction a chance to build up the unique style of the base and dig out the first level for you to explore. When you return the factions commander will be in the stargate level waiting for you, he will ask you if you want to join the ranks and blah blah blah. Then thats the end of the mod.

Kidding, thats is the planned prologue, after that I will add the second floor which will store the stargate stuff and be where the first chapter of the NVE will begin. Each chapter is planned to add either a new planet/new area on an old planet, new level of Area 51 or perhaps a mix of the three. I will focus on the stargate things to begin with of course. Im not sure what the first planet will be but Im looking for suggestions so please comment and let me know what you think the first world should be!
